I’m scrolling today through the final version of our soon-to-release devotional (for us girlies!) and it feels like I’m about to cross the finish line. Except, I am aware that the finish line is really the starting point. I need to shop for some solid running shoes…
Each day in the book is a new topic, and I hope a new moment to breathe in God’s incredible truth. Day 3 happens to be titled “Promise Keeper”…
…But isn’t it a strange idea in our present day? Not two words you hear on the street often. Promises tend to get moldy like the loaf of bread on my counter today (um, bread shouldn’t be blue…right?). Promises are made and later thrown out (as I did to my colorful loaf).
Maybe it’s because we aren’t very good at keeping them. In fact, if anyone can break a promise lately, the government can.
It’s still fresh in my mind, too. My country’s less-than-reliable government shut down for about 2 ½ weeks. If you are like me, you were shocked that such a seemingly unstoppable power could be shut off like a faucet. But there is another Kingdom that doesn’t shut off supply. It never runs out. We are citizens of that Kingdom, first and foremost. “Your kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and your dominion endures through all generations. The Lord is trustworthy in all he promises and faithful in all he does.” (Psalm 145)
Trustworthy. Faithful.
Two words that define our King and His Kingdom. I will build my house on this rock, and put my hope in His promises.
As our hemisphere changes to a new season (where trees look more like sticks), let it be a reminder of the unchangeable fortress that is our God. Those who hope in Him will never be disappointed!
