Behind the Song “Beautiful Miracle” (an interview with Kevin Davis)

“I love the simplicity and worshipfulness of ‘Beautiful Miracle’. What a great way to reflect on the miracle of Christmas. God came down as a baby, gave Himself to us, our Creator and our King.

Whenever I’m tempted to get caught up in the hustle and bustle of the commercial Christmas season, a song like this one can help me focus on the true meaning of Christmas, which is to stop and be in awe of my Lord.

I had the opportunity to interview Elissa from The Sonflowerz about her catchy original Christmas song and this is what she shared with me.” -Kevin Davis, NewReleaseTuesday.com

Please share the message behind the song “Beautiful Miracle”.

“It is definitely a blessing to be able to share the message behind this song and thank you for listening to the song and for your appreciation of our music. I have to learn our songs all over again each Christmas, and this song refreshes my perspective on Christmas.

Christmas didn’t just happen 2,000 years ago, it happens every year. We experience the birth of Jesus new every year. That’s what this song does for me. For years I wanted to write a Christmas song, and finally I sat down to write this song. It was actually in June, since that’s when Christmas songs are written. I started writing this song on piano, which is unique for me because I usually write songs on guitar.

The song is about the reality of Jesus being with us, which is the glorious Truth of Christmas. Our vision for this project is to celebrate the coming of Jesus into our world. Jesus Christ is the beautiful miracle of our lives. Through His coming as a baby in a manger and the sacrifice of His life for us, we can see the love of God in such a personal way.” -Elissa

Please tell me about the Bible verses you used to write the song.

Several scriptures that inspired me are…

‘Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, “I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.”‘ -John 8:12

‘…giving thanks to the Father who has qualified us to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in the light. He has delivered us from the power of darkness and conveyed us into the kingdom of the Son of His love, in whom we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins.’ -Colossians 1:12-14

‘Be strong and of good courage, do not fear nor be afraid of them; for the Lord your God, He is the One who goes with you. He will not leave you nor forsake you.’ -Deuteronomy 31:6

‘Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.’ -Matthew 28:19-20

How can listeners apply that message in their walks as Christians when they listen to the song?

“I feel that when Jesus, the Light of the world, came into the world, suddenly there was Hope that wasn’t there before. I try to imagine my life without Jesus and I became a Christian so young, I can’t imagine living without Jesus. Life isn’t perfect for me, but it’s never hopeless. Without Jesus, life is hopeless, whether or not you know it.

My family goes for a walk on Christmas day, and one Christmas day we saw a young teenage girl in the park in her pajamas and slippers and her suitcase stomping out of her house. My heart just broke when I saw her mother come out the front door and chase after her and ask her not to leave. It was heart breaking moment, and everyone fantasizes that Christmas is that perfect day and nothing can go wrong. The reality is that normal life happens on Christmas. What’s makes the day special is Jesus. If we don’t have Jesus, normal life, frustrations, and the drama of life can come in and steal the joy of Christmas.

The superficial and commercial gift giving at Christmas time are nothing compared to the joy that Jesus brings. Go find someone who isn’t saved and share the gift of the love of Jesus.” -Elissa

Lyrics:
I watch the snowfall outside my window
I’m thinking of that lowly manger all those years ago
The world was burdened by darkness and strife
Till the hope of heaven came that wondrous night
All history changed as the dark rolled away

Now we stand in the light
In the glory of the Father’s love
Jesus has come to us
Everyone sing for joy
Let the weary soul be lifted up
Now that He’s here with us
What a beautiful miracle, oh Emmanuel, God with us

It’s Christmas morning, outside it’s all white
But half a mile away a family is in a painful fight
I know that Jesus sees every tear cried
Present in our suffering, He’s a faithful friend through life
And we’re not alone no matter where we go
